Index of Families in the Hortus
The Plantae Kingdom of living organisms is sub-classified by Division, Class, Family, Genus and Species. Some of these have sub-divisions but they are not considered here. The purpose of classification is to demonstrate the evolutionary relationships between plants. Family is in some respects the most useful of the higher order classifications, being close enough to the species for the affinities between the plants in the Family to be reasonably obvious. Plants in the Hortus are aggregated by Family but can also be grouped by Genus by scrolling through the plants in a Family or via the Search box.
