Notice

Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Papaveraceae

A family of some 28 genera and 250 species of annual or perennial herbs, mostly from temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. [FNSW].  At least one genus, Papaver, is of economic importance as the source of powerful narcotic compounds.  Represented in the Hortus by a small number of ornamental herbs.
