Sterculiaceae
A family of some 65 genera and 1100 species of shrubs and trees, mainly from tropical and sub-tropical regions. One species, the Cocoa tree, is of considerable economic importance, others are used locally for timber. [FNSW]. Represented in the Hortus by a number of ornamental trees, principally from Australia.
