Notice

Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Musaceae

A family of large herbs consisting of some 5 genera and 80 species, mainly from the Old World tropics.  [RHSD].  The family contains many ornamentals but also several plants of economic importance, particularly the bananas and species producing fibre.  Represented in the Hortus by the Cavandish banana and an ornamental species.
