Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Hymenosporum flavum (Hook.) F. Muell.

Evergreen shrub or tree, to 8m., with fragrant, bright yellow flowers, to 2.5cm across.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) R.Br. subsp. brasiliensis (L.) Ootstr.

Vigorous, prostrate trailing plant with emarginate or two-lobed leaves and mauve-purple flowers.  [FNSW, Wrigley, Beadle].

Jasminum bidwillii Vis.

Jasminum bidwilli is correctly named Jasminum didymum G.Forst. subsp. lineare (R.Br.) P.Green, which see for further information.  It is recorded separately here to assist identification.

Frost tender, tall woody climber with very variable three-foliate leaves, the leaflets somewhat ovate to lance-shaped, to 8cm long, and axillary or terminal racemes of pure white flowers, each to 2cm long.  [Don].

Jasminum volubile Jacq.

Half-hardy, slender evergreen climber with ovate, glossy, privet-like leaflets, a profuse flowerer with fragrant white flowers.  [Hortus, FNSW, Don].

Lagarostrobos franklinii (Hook.f.) Quinn

Marginally frost-hardy, evergreen conical tree, spreading with age, with slender, drooping branches clothed in scale-like leaves, and erect and terminal female cones.  To 30m.  [RHSD, Hortus, Hilliers’]. 

Lagunaria patersonia (Andr.) G.Don

Frost-tender, pyramidal to columnar tree, with lance-shaped leaves, to 10cm long, whitish-grey beneath, and a succession of pink, trumpet-shaped flowers, to 6cm across, mainly in summer, followed by ovoid seed capsules.  To 15m.  [RHSE, Hortus].

Leptospermum flavescens Sm. var. grandiflorum (Lodd.) Benth.

Frost-hardy upright shrub with white-hairy stems, ovate, grey-green leaves, to 1.5cm long, and solitary, saucer-shaped, white, or rarely pink, flowers, to 2cm across, in summer. To 4m.  [RHSE, Hortus, Hilliers’].

Liparis reflexa (R.Br.) Lindl.

Frost-hardy terrestrial or lithophytic orchid with fleshy dark green or yellowish green pseudobulbs, leaves up to 30cm long, and terminal racemes of yellowish-green, occasionally reddish-purple flowers with an unpleasant odour of which the common names are suggestive.  Flowers in the autumn.  [Jones, FNSW, Beadle]. 

Livistona australis (R.Br.) Mart.

Large palm with an erect, robust trunk and long, spiny leaf stalks supporting longer, fan-like leaves.  From spring to summer long panicles of cream flowers are produced, followed by brownish red to black fruit.  To 25m.  [RHSE, Hortus, FNSW, Beadle].

Livistona inermis R.Br.

Frost hardy, small, unarmed, fan-leaved, solitary palm, rarely exceeding 5m in height, with large, fan-like leaves.  [Wrigley].

Lobelia gracilis Andr.

Erect to shortly trailing glabrous herbaceous plant, leaves to 5.5cm long, the upper ones lance-shaped and pinnatifid, becoming linear, the flowers in one-sided racemes of up to 12 blooms, dark blue or violet, paler at the base.  To 30cm.  [FNSW, Beadle].  

Lobelia tenuior R.Br.

Half-hardy perennial with deeply toothed, obovate leaves and deep blue flowers with a white eye.  To 30cm.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Lucuma sericea (Aiton) Benth. & Hook.f.

Frost tender shrub with ovate leaves, hairy beneath, and axillary white flowers.  To 3m.  [Don].

Lycopodium cernuum L.

Very variable tender, creeping fern with forked branches and bright, light green leaves.  [RHSD, FNSW].  Figured in Flora Fluminensis [t.112/1790].
