Half hardy, fast-growing, semi-evergreen shrub with long, arching shoots, ovate, fleshy, blue-grey leaves, and tubular, bright yellow flowers, to 4cm long. To 6m. [RHSE, Hortus, FNSW].
Horticultural & Botanical History
Introduced to Britain in 1827. [JD]. ‘The plant was raised from seeds communicated to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, by Mr. Smith, of Monkwood, Ayr, whose son had sent them from Buenos Ayres. It was kept in the stove, but on coming into flower in the middle of March, was removed to the greenhouse.’ [BM t.2837/1828].

Listed as Nicotiana glauca under both Herbaceous plants in 1850 and 1857 [H.156/1850] and under Trees and Shrubs in 1857 [T.710/1857]. this is presumably in error.
