Notes
Unidentified Indigofera species from Cashmere and India could be Indigofera stachyodes Lindl., syn. Indigofera dosua Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don, introduced to England in 1840 from Bhutan by W. Griffith, who sent seeds to Richard Horsman Solly, first flowering in the Chiswick gardens of the Horticultural Society in 1840. ‘A handsome hardy greenhouse shrub, growing readily in a rich open soil, chiefly composed of sandy loam, with a little leaf mould.’ [BR f.14/1843]. Another possibility is Indigofera gerardiana Baker, syn. Indigofera dosua Wall., introduced to Europe in 1840. It has bright, purplish-rose flowers. [Hilliers’].
