Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Hatiora salicornioides (Haw.) Britt. & Rose

Frost tender, epiphytic, bushy, erect or pendant cactus producing stems with club-shaped, bronzy-green segments, to 5cm long, arranged in whorls of up to 5, and funnel-shaped, golden yellow or orange flowers, to 1cm long, in spring.  To 40cm by 40cm.  [RHSE, Hortus].

Heliocereus speciosus (Cav.) Britt. & Rose

Frost tender, semi-pendant to erect cactus with cylindrical, unevenly toothed, mid-green stems with prominent ribs and yellow to pale brown spines, and trumpet-shaped, purple tinged red flowers, to 17cm long, in summer.  To 2m.  [RHSE, Hortus].

Hylocereus lemairei (Hook.) Britt. & Rose

Frost tender, erect, rooting cactus with a branched, triangular, jointed stem, to 3cm in diameter, and yellow prickles, and white flowers tinged pink near the base.  [RHSD, Don].

Hylocereus triangularis (L.) Britt. & Rose

Frost tender, climbing cactus with jointed, triangular stems and, in summer, fragrant white flowers. To 4m.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Kalanchoe pinnata (Lam.) Pers.

Frost tender, bushy, erect, perennial succulent with ovate, toothed, red-tinged leaves, and pendant, tubular to bell-shaped, red-tinted, greenish-white flowers in cyme-like panicles in late summer.  To 1m.  [RHSE].

Lampranthus aurantiacus (DC.) Schwantes

Erect succulent plant with slender, erect stems, 3-angled, spotted leaves with a spiny tip and yellow-orange flowers.  To 90cm.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Lampranthus emarginatus N.E.Br.

Stems erect, branched, leaves slender, keeled, with translucent dots, the flowers magenta and numerous.  To 45cm.  [RHSD, Hortus].

 

Lampranthus glaucus (L.) N.E.Br.

A tender, erect perennial with 3-angled leaves, somewhat flattened, and large, sulphur-yellow flowers.  To 60cm.  [Hortus].

Lampranthus multiradiatus (Jacq.) N.E.Brown

Erect-stemmed succulent with spreading branches, slender, 3-angles leaves with translucent dots, and pale pink flowers.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Malacocarpus ottonis (Lehm.) Britton & Rose

Frost tender, very variable, small, globose cactus, usually single at first then clustered, with up to 15 ribs bearing hair-like spines, and multi-petalled, diaphanous yellow to orange-red flowers above the groups of spines.  To 15cm.  [RHSD, Don].

Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L.

Frost tender, annual, carpet-forming succulent with thick, fleshy leaves with undulating margins and groups of 3-5, white, narrow-petalled flowers, to 3cm in diameter, in summer.  To 10cm, spreading.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Nopalxochia phyllanthoides (DC.) Britt. & Rose

Frost tender, semi-erect perennial cactus with strap-shaped, scalloped, deep green stems and pink to red flowers.  To 45cm.  [RHSE].

Opuntia brasiliensis (Willd.) Haw.

Frost tender, scarcely spiny cactus with cylindrical stem, ultimate branches, flattened and almost leaf-like, and yellow flowers.  To 3.5m.  [RHSD, Hortus].
