Notice

Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Hyacinthaceae

A family of some 70 genera and 1000 species of bulbous perennials, widely distributed with a large number of species in southern Africa and the Mediterranean.  [Martin Pfosser and Franz Speta, tolweb.org/Hyacinthaceae].  Until recently included in Liliaceae.  Represented in the Hortus by plants from both principal regions.
