Notice

Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Vitis vinifera ‘Terret’

Three grapes are known under the generic name ‘Terret’, ‘Noir’, ‘Gris’ and ‘Blanc’.

Horticultural & Botanical History

‘Terret Noir’ is figured in Album de Pomologie as ‘Raisin Terret Noir’ [ADP 1847-1850], the illustration used here.

History at Camden Park

Listed in all published catalogues as ‘Terret’ [Vines for Table Only no.7/1843]. ‘19-1’ is written next to the name in the 1843 and 1845 catalogues. This number, and all similar, is the reference number of the grape in Busby’s collections, in the 1840s held at the Sydney Botanic Garden. In this case it is grape no. 19 of Busby’s first, or private collection.
