Vitis vinifera ‘Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains’
I have found no contemporary description of this grape. Hogg gives ‘Moscatel Menudo’ as a synonym of ‘Red Frontignan’. See ‘Muscat Rouge’.
Horticultural & Botanical History
A white wine grape named for the small berry size. There are strain variations and, particularly in Australia, some strains will produce pink or reddish-brown fruit, hence the local name of ‘Brown Muscat’ and ‘Frontignan’. [Wikipedia and other internet sources]. This characteristic may be the reason for the synonym ‘Red Frontignan’ given by Hogg.
History at Camden Park
Listed only in the 1850 and 1857 catalogues as ‘ditto menudo’, i.e. ‘Moscatel Menudo’ [Vines for Wine only no.31/1850]. The identification of this grape is uncertain.
