Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Fuchsia Henderson’s ‘Duchess of Lancaster’

Henderson’s ‘Duchess of Lancaster’, 1853.  ‘White tube and sepals, vermillion corolla, extra fine.’ The flower was well reflexed and distinctive. It was considered an excellent show fuchsia.  [FC p.106/1853, FC p.33/1855 and FC p.23/1856].

Horticultural & Botanical History

‘A very large collection of (Fuchsias) is now in flower at the Royal Nursery.  Of the newer kinds, ‘Duchess of Lancaster’ [was] conspicuous among light varieties’.  [Gard. Chron. 1853].  This variety is still available today.
