Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Fuchsia Storey’s ‘Devoniensis’

‘This is a fine variety of excellent habit, with a short scarlet tube, and sepals of fine texture; corolla beautiful light violet, and well formed. It is an abundant bloomer, and will be an acquisition to every collection.’  [Gard. Chron. 1851]. 

Horticultural & Botanical History

‘Devoniensis’ was raised as a seedling in 1849 by W. H. Storey of Whitehill, Newton Bushell, and proved in his nursery in 1850.  It was distributed by Veitch and Sons of Exeter who advertised it in The Gardeners Chronicle of 1851.
