Dendrobium rex M.A.Clem. & D.L.Jones

See Dendrobium speciosum Sm. for more detail.   Dendrobium rex is the largest of the Dendrobium speciosum group with creamy yellow to bright yellow flowers and pseudobulbs to 1.8m long.  Grows on trees and rocks usually.  [Jones].

History at Camden Park

Listed in the 1850 and 1857 catalogues [O.27/1850].  Probably the plant described by William Macarthur in a letter to Loddiges’ Nursery on the 6th January, 1845: ‘Dendrobium like speciosum but growing on ground chiefly, much larger pseudo bulbs, 3 feet 6 ins long, flowers at a different season.’  [MP A2933-2, p.28].  This is almost certainly the Dendrobium rex of Clemence and Jones.  Probably collected by John Bidwill from Wide Bay.
