Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Bouvardia laevis M.Martens & Galeotti

Frost tender, branching shrub with ovate leaves, to 11cm long and tubular red or yellow flowers, to 3cm long.  To 1.5m.  [RHSD].  Considered by some to be a synonym of Bouvardia flava Decne. which see, but the latter is usually described as a small shrub.  [Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden v.5, 1968, p.7].

History at Camden Park

Listed in the 1850 and 1857 catalogues [H.29/1850].  It was requested of Loddiges’ nursery on 1st February, 1849, presumably the source.  [MP A2933-1, p.185].

I have found no record of Bouvardia laevigata.
