History at Camden Park
Listed only in the 1850 and 1857 catalogues [T.590/1850]. Macarthur probably obtained his plant directly from Bidwill. It is probably the jasmine collected by Bidwill on Mount Beerwah in the Glasshouse Mountains in 1841 during a visit to Moreton Bay and explorations to the north, and believed by him to be a new species.
Notes
It should be noted that, although Macarthur used the name Jasminum Bidwilli in the 1850 and 1857 catalogues the plant known by that name today, and described here, was not botanically described by Roberto de Visiani until 1858. Macarthur’s use of the name therefore predates that of Visiani.
