Verbena x hybrida Robinson’s ‘Defiance’
A cultivar of Verbena x hybrida Hort. ex Vilm., the Florists’ Verbena. ‘Of scarlets, decidedly the best yet is Robinson’s Defiance, a most splendid variety; already too well known to need describing.’ [Gard. Chron. 1848].

History at Camden Park
Plants sent from Veitch’s Nursery of Exeter to John Bidwill at Camden Park in 1849 included seven named Verbenas of which this plant is one. These were almost certainly among the many varieties listed in the Addendum of the 1850 catalogue. [A.63/1850].
