Notice

Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Psidium cattleyanum Wienw. var. lucidum

For a description of the species see Psidium cattleyanum Wienw. The variety lucidum has whitish-yellow fruit rather than reddish-purple, and yellow flesh. [RHSD]. The fruits are often a little larger.

History at Camden Park

Guava ‘Cattley’s white’ is listed in all published catalogues. There is doubt about this identification, ‘Cattley’s white’ could also be a form of Psidium cattleyanum with white flesh. The species is somewhat variable in this regard as well as in fruit colour and other characters.
