Macarthur placed an order for eight varieties of Dianthus seed with James Carter, Florist and Seedsman of High Holborn, on 8th of April 1846 [MP A2933-1, p.128]. Species or varieties are not specified in the order or in The Gardeners Chronicle advertisement on which it was based.
