Melastoma species unidentified
Melastoma is a genus of about 70 species of mainly evergreen shrubs and small trees from India and South East Asia. They produce bowl- or saucer-shaped flowers, from white to purple, followed by fleshy berries.

History at Camden Park
Listed only in the 1850 and 1857 catalogues [T.670/1850]. This is possibly Melastoma corymbosa Rich. which see. This plant was included in a consignment of plants sent from Kew by John Bidwill in November 1843 [AJCP]. It is likely that these plants were sent to Camden but there is no record of it growing there.
