Frost-tender, evergreen twining shrub with 3-foliate leaves and axillary racemes of yellow flowers with a dark violet-purple keel, in spring and summer.  To 1.2m.  [RHSD].

Horticultural & Botanical History

‘Introduced by Mr. Masson in 1774; but had been long previously cultivated in Holland.  Hermann found it growing at the side of the Table Mountain to the height of three yards.  It requires to be kept in the greenhouse.’  [BR f.261/1818].
