Frost tender perennial climber with terminal and axillary cymes of deep rose flowers, shaded violet, in summer.  [RHSD, Hortus].

Horticultural & Botanical History

Johnson’s Dictionary gives a date of introduction to Britain for C. thomsonae as 1862.  The hybrid may well have been introduced before the parent.  IH xvi. t.593/1869.

History at Camden Park

Macarthur ordered seed from Hurst and McMullen, Seedsmen and Florists, London, on 8th April, 1846.  [MP A2933-1, p.132].

Clerodendrum speciosum Gurke., a species from Angola, was described in 1894.
