Bulbophyllum elisae (F.Muell.) Benth.

Mat-forming epiphyte with ovoid pseudobulbs, to 2cm in diameter, deeply furrowed with warty ridges, thin, leathery leaves, to 10cm long, and greenish flowers with reddish stripes and dark red to purple labellum.  [Jones, FNSW].

History at Camden Park

Plants were sent to Loddiges’ nursery on 6th January 1845: ‘New sp. with prickly pseudo-bulbs from [Gloucester] perhaps a Bolbophyllum.’  [MP A2933-2, p.28].  Probably collected by Macarthur, P. P. King or Bidwill.  If this identification is correct Macarthur appears to have exported this plant long before it was botanically described by Ferdinand Mueller in 1868.
