Agapanthaceae
Deciduous or evergreen perennials, the rootstock a rhizome giving rise to often many fleshy roots, the leaves basal and strap-like, the inflorescence an umbel of funnel-shaped or tubular blue or white flowers. The family contains a single genus, Agapanthus, with 10 species, all from Southern Africa [CECB]. Agapanthus has long been included in the family Alliaceae, and is also often included in Amaryllidaceae or Liliaceae.
