Mimulus alatus Ait.

Fully hardy, stoloniferous, herbaceous perennial with ovate to lance-shaped leaves, to 15cm long, and light blue or violet flowers.  To 60cm.  [RHSD, Hortus, Don].

Horticultural & Botanical History

‘A native of North America, in moist ground: it flowers freely with us in the latter part of the summer, and was introduced in the year 1803. […] Though not particularly showy, it still possesses its beauties, nor can it fail to interest the thinking mind.’  [LBC no.410/1820].  Possibly introduced to Britain as early as 1783.  [JD].

Probably short lived in the gardens as it is listed only in the 1845 catalogue.
