Fully-hardy perennial forming a dense mound of arching, lance-shaped leaves and narrowly funnel-shaped deep purple flowers in summer. To 45cm. [RHSE, Hortus].
Horticultural & Botanical History
‘We received it from our friend Mr. Schuurmann, of the Leyden Botanical Garden. This ancient institution interesting by reason of the connexion of so many of the early botanists with it, we rejoice to find is still in a flourishing condition.’ [LBC no.1658/1832].
Funkia lancaefolia was introduced to Britain in 1829. [JD]. OFG f.166/1854.
