Horticultural & Botanical History

‘This charming plant is a native of Caucasus: in 1804 we received seeds of it collected by Marshall Biebeostein, author of the Flora Taurico-Caucasica. […] We consider it as a very great acquisition to our gardens; as it is of easy culture, and flowers most abundantly in the month of June.’  [LBC no.89, 1817].  BM t.1229/1809.  BM t.1410/1811.

History at Camden Park

Seed order to Hurst and McMullen, Seedsmen and Florists of London, on 8th April 1846. [MP A2933-1, p.132].  If Macarthur received the seed it is unlikely that he succeeded with it.
