Fully hardy clump-forming biennial or perennial with dense, leafy racemes of pale cream or fawn flowers from mid- to late summer.  To 60cm.  [RHSE, Hortus].

Horticultural & Botanical History

Introduced to Britain in 1789 from Hungary.  [JD].  ‘Native of Hungary.  Hardy.  Flowers in June, July, and August.  Propagated by seeds.  Introduced according to Donn, in 1790.  Communicated by Messrs. Napier and Chandler, Nurserymen at Vauxhall, in 1807.’  [BM t.1159/1808].
