Araucaria species unidentified New Caledonia

No description.  This plant is probably identical to Araucaria columnaris (Forst.f.) Hook. which see, listed under the name Araucaria Cookii in the 1857 catalogue.  The unidentified species was probably replaced by Araucaria Cookii in the 1857 edition when Macarthur confirmed its identity.

Listed only in the 1850 catalogue.  Probably the plant described by William Macarthur as a ‘fine new species from New Caledonia’ [MP A2933-1, p.172].  See Araucaria columnaris (Forst.f.) Hook. for more details.

Notes

Thirteen species of Araucaria are found in New Caledonia.  A possibility is one of these, such as Araucaria rulei F.Muell. ex Lindl., a species found only in a small area of New Caledonia.  It is a tree with pendulous branchlets and young growth, and adult leaves to 2cm, oval to elliptic, silvery-grey above, glossy green beneath.  To 15m.  [RHSD, Hortus].
