Notice

Colin Mills, compiler of the Hortus Camdenensis, died in late November 2012 after a short illness. As he always considered the Hortus his legacy, it is his family's intention to keep the site running in perpetuity. It will not, however, be updated in the near future.

Betulaceae

A family of some 6 genera and 100 species of nut-bearing shrubs and trees from the temperate and cooler regions of the Northern Hemisphere.  [RHSD].  The family contains a number of species of economic importance for their nuts or timber.  Corylys and other genera are sometimes placed in a separate family, Corylaceae.  Represented in the Hortus by the Hazel nut and Filbert.
